IT budgeting: Storage Purchasing Intentions fall 2012 survey results

4/6

Disk hardware and storage budget allocation

As in years past, disk ate the biggest chunk (36%) of storage administrators' storage budget in the fall 2012 survey, by almost three times that of any other storage budget item. Disk prices are dropping, of course, but that price drop is offset by the need for more capacity. After disk hardware, survey respondents allocated budget to staff (on average, 15% of budget), maintenance and storage software (tied at 12%), storage network hardware and professional services (tied at 9%), and media (7%). As a whole, storage budget allocation has not changed much in the decade that Storage magazine has been conducting the storage Purchasing Intentions survey.
