After SAP acquired Sybase in 2010, they updated Sybase Afaria and released the product with a number of new features. Afaria is a true enterprise-level MDM solution that supports a wide range of platforms, including iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Symbian and Win32 laptops. Afaria provides a single console for centrally managing, securing and deploying mobile devices and their applications and data. Administrators can assign group memberships and policies, deliver the management client over the air, initialize application deployment and configure devices for connectivity. Afaria makes it possible to establish security policies, install and encrypt data, set up antivirus software, and control peripheral and port connectivity. In addition, SAP Afaria Enterprise easily integrates with numerous enterprise technologies, such as the .NET Framework, NT and LDAP directory services, and database systems such as SQL Anywhere, SQL Server and Oracle. Plus, end users can access the Afaria self-service portal to enroll and manage their own devices. Through its centralized console, Afaria supports policy- and profile-based management that starts with the provisioning stage, extends into the production stage and continues until the device has been decommissioned. Throughout the device lifecycle, administrators can monitor performance, update software, track assets, maintain device configurations, and distribute and update data and files.
