Windows Intune is a cloud-based service originally set up for managing and securing end-user PCs. However, Intune now also supports Windows Phone 7, iOS and Android mobile devices. The Intune service uses Exchange ActiveSync to integrate these devices with the organization's infrastructure and to enforce access policies. Intune also leverages Windows Azure Active Directory to maintain user accounts. As a result, you can target Exchange ActiveSync policies to your mobile user groups, thereby controlling such security settings as password length and data encryption. Intune also lets administrators set access roles by device family or model, as well as retire or wipe devices that have been lost or stolen. In addition, administrators can use the Intune services to deploy line-of-business applications to their mobile user groups while enabling self-service capabilities for those users.
