Tech Data reseller channel gets HP learning system

Tech Data has launched an online learning management system for its resellers that are HP partners. The system provides information on products and new technology.

Tech Data Corp. yesterday launched an online learning management system (LMS), called EmpowerMe, for U.S.-based HP authorized partners in response to partner complaints about how difficult it is for the vendor's 20,000 unmanaged partners to navigate within HP.

EmpowerMe is open to all HP partners as long as they're a Tech Data reseller. While the distributor said it designed the LMS prior to announcement of the HP company split, partners in both of the new HP organizations -- HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise -- will be able to benefit from EmpowerMe.

By logging into the Tech Data reseller portal, HP partners can select EmpowerMe under the reseller tools tab. "Here partners will find a ton of educational information -- PDFs and videos, for example. This platform is purely for learning and differs from what HP offers. It's an enablement platform for partners looking for information on products, new technology … in a simplified manner," said Heather Murray, vice president of product marketing with the HP Solutions Group at Tech Data

The Tech Data reseller community can expect to find information on topics such as converged infrastructure, security and how to build a cloud practice. The portal was designed to help partners increase solution selling, understand HP offerings and how to sell them, offer support and training for new product launches, and, offer a roadmap and training for HP certifications. 

According to Murray, for partners needing additional, more in-depth information on technical topics, Tech Data has engineers on staff to answer partner inquiries. "This LMS complements what HP is doing," she said. 

This is the first exclusive LMS for HP partners in the U.S. from Tech Data. The LMS was originally designed and created for the distributor's European internal sales team and partners about two years ago.

"The endeavor was wildly successful and they got a lot of support from HP. I then saw it as an opportunity for us because we didn't have anything like it here," said Murray. 

While the formal launch of EmpowerMe was yesterday, there are already about 400 users on the LMS, including internal Tech Data sales reps and resellers. The distributor hopes EmpowerMe attracts a few thousand users over the next 12 months. 

The LMS is not available yet in Canada or Latin America.
