Avnet debuts new EMC-based converged architecture offerings

Avnet Technology Solutions announces it will offer a pair of converged architecture appliances based on EMC products to U.S. and Canadian partners.

LAS VEGAS -- Today at EMC World 2014 and the EMC Global Partner Summit, Avnet Technology Solutions announced two new offerings: the Avnet A30 Series and A20 Series appliances for converged architecture based on EMC’s recently launched VNXe3200 unified storage platform and EMC ScaleIO architecture, respectively.

This pair of converged architecture offerings is available to Avnet’s partners in the U.S. and Canada who help small businesses and larger companies with remote or branch offices establish affordable private clouds for remote and virtual access to their data.

According to Avnet, The Avnet A30 Series and A20 Series solutions are built on EMC’s VSPEX for Private Cloud architecture, which features virtualization with flexibility, validated interoperability for deployment, and cloud-based storage and backup.

The Avnet A30 Series targets companies with offices of about 50 users. The solution includes the Data Domain DD2200 for storage protection, application protection and data integrity. It also includes the VNXe3200, EMC’s unified storage platform, which features unified snapshots and Fibre Channel support, Fully Automated Storage Tiering (FAST) and Multicore Optimization (MCx) software  designed to increase performance while reducing costs.

The Avnet A20 Series targets smaller businesses with offices with approximately 25 users. The solution includes ScaleIO, a software-only solution that uses the application hosts’ local disks to realize a virtual SAN. ScaleIO is designed to cost less than external SAN storage and also reduce complexity.

In a recent interview with SearchITChannel, Gregg Ambulos, senior vice president of global and Americas channel sales, discussed the critical role that EMC’s distributors play in reaching partners and generating revenue for EMC. He also said that the amount of EMC business going through distributors is increasing, as are the number of partners new to selling EMC’s family of products.
