Geraffo joins Oracle exec lineup as new channel chief; more news

Oracle has named Rich Geraffo as its new channel chief, replacing Judson Althoff; Tech Data signs distribution deal with Unitrends.

Oracle exec lineup has new member: Rich Geraffo

Rich Geraffo is Oracle’s new senior vice president of worldwide alliances and channels as of this week, replacing Judson Althoff, who left Oracle in March for a post at Microsoft as president of North American sales and marketing. Geraffo’s previous position was senior vice president and managing director of Enterprise Business, Americas at Hewlett-Packard.

Geraffo will report to Oracle President Mark Hurd and will be responsible for ongoing development and execution of Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN), including revenue generating initiatives for the company’s channel partners. Geraffo's appointment marks Oracle's third high-level channel post to be filled by former HP execs, joining Hurd, who left HP in 2010.

Tech Data signs distribution agreement with Unitrends

Tech Data channel partners will now have access to the entire product portfolio of physical and virtual backup and recovery solutions from Unitrends.

The two companies this week signed a distribution agreement whereby Tech Data will offer Unitrends all-in-one backup, archiving, instant recovery and disaster recovery solutions.

Unitrends solutions include Unitrends Enterprise Backup, a software-only backup and recovery virtual appliance, and Unitrends Recovery Series, a family of scalable backup and recovery physical appliances.

To kick off the partnership, the companies are offering a limited-time promotion for end users. Companies that purchase a Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) server from a Tech Data reseller will receive a free, 5 TB license of Unitrends Enterprise Backup that, according to the vendor, is valued at $24,000. The software comes preloaded on a USB drive that is included inside the box.

Tech Data sets up enablement program for Microsoft partners

Tech Data Corp. this week rolled out a new enablement program for solution providers, centered around Microsoft products. The program, dubbed Microsoft Beyond!, offers rewards and incentives, education, and marketing resources for business related to Microsoft productivity applications, data center products, business intelligence and cloud computing.

Avnet expands its distribution agreement with SAP

Avnet Technology Solutions, an operating group of Avnet Inc., this week announced that it has expanded its distribution agreement with SAP America Inc. in North America.

U.S. and Canadian Avnet channel partners will now have access to analytics, database and technology, and enterprise mobility solutions from SAP. More specifically, Avnet will distribute the SAP HANA platform, SAP Afaria, SAP Business Objects, SAP Crystal, SAP Lumira and SAP Sybase, according to the distributor.

To help partners maximize this new sales opportunity, Avnet is also making available education, resources, services and tools. For example, Avnet will offer SAP authorized resellers data mining to identify sales opportunities, sales and technical training on topics such as big data, customized demand generation programs, and reference architectures for converged infrastructure solutions.

ViaWest enhances channel partner program with new tools, benefits

Colocation provider ViaWest this week announced changes to its partner program for agents, systems integrators, VARs and brokers. The Partner Connect program now has a portal for registration and opportunity tracking; three membership levels; compensation plans that include the options of upfront payments and "pay-for life"; and training and sales tools.
