SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse preview posted

Microsoft released the final technology preview of SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse last week.

The preview incorporates technology from DATAllegro to enable VARs to construct bigger data warehouses and scale them over multiple SQL Server machines.

No release date on the final product was given. Solution providers can test out the new database via Microsoft's Technology Adoption Program.

Amazon opens up about cloud outages

IT users applaud a new-found openness on the part of Amazon Web Services when it comes to service issues.

Oracle BI focuses on being a good Oracle citizen

Oracle business intelligence (BI) software is lauded for its scalability and data federation talents. But, Oracle has spent so much time and energy integrating acquisitions into its growing portfolio that it loses points for BI innovation. The upshot is that the database giant doesn't deliver the latest and greatest BI enhancements as fast as IBM, SAP and other rivals, said Gartner Inc. analyst Rita Sallam.
