Oracle-Sun acquisition gets green light from European Commission
The much-debated Oracle-Sun acquisition has finally received a stamp of approval from the European Commission (EC).
On April 20, 2009, Oracle Corp. officially entered into an agreement to acquire Sun Microsystems. The deal has since been under scrutiny from Sun stockholders, partners and the EC.
More solutions providers are also expressing their concerns now that the Oracle-Sun acquisition has EC consent. Some Sun partners worry over potential loss of maintenance renewal revenue, and quite a few Oracle VARs feel the merger with Sun will just amplify competition for software license sales, according to SearchITChannel.com.
Microsoft System Center Essentials 2010 includes Hyper-V management
Microsoft System Center Essentials 2010 is now in Release Candidate status, with more advanced virtualization capabilities than the current version, System Center Essentials 2007.
Microsoft System Center Essentials 2010 is a collection of multiple System Center products (System Center Operation Manager 2007 and Windows Server Update Services 3) that support up to 50 servers and 500 clients and has a single management console, according to virtualization.info.
To provide Hyper-V management capabilities, the upcoming version of Microsoft System Center Essentials 2010 will also include the System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 engine. This new addition will let solutions providers create and operate virtual machines, perform physical-to-virtual and virtual-to-virtual migrations and control templates and snapshots.
