Virtualization management tool usage among organizations
IT professionals from a group of virtualization shops came together to rate virtualization management tools as part of the FOCUS Research Series: Managing the Virtual Environment.
Two of VMware's virtualization management tools were voted as the most popular. VCenter was at the top of the popularity list with 176 of 206 professionals using the tool, and VMotion came in second with 155 organizations using the tool, according to SearchVMware.com.
2010 forecast for employment and certifications
Job recovery in 2010 is expected to be a slow process, especially for specific segments of the IT industry.
A 2010 IT labor market predictions report by Foote Partners LLC showed that the focus will be on developing skills through certifications rather than on hiring new employees.
Top skills for the coming year include information security, open source operating systems, virtualization and architecting. The top certifications for 2010 are expected to be Red Hat Certified Engineer, Cisco IP Contact Center Express Specialist, GIAC Certified Incident Handler, Systems Security Certified Practitioner and Cisco Certified Design Expert.
Rackspace Hosting modifies channel program
Rackspace Hosting has made adjustments to its Partner Network program by adding additional training and marketing resources.
The hosting and cloud computing company has also created four new tiers -- Platinum, Gold, Silver and Member -- that partners can qualify for based on their company size and sales. Depending on the partner level, Rackspace said it will also pay partners commissions on upgrades and renewals contracts.
Additional benefits of the program include access to a Rackspace sales representative and a revamped Partner Network portal with marketing, sales and industry information.
