Signs of life? CDW spending index shows IT growth potential

The new edition of the CDW IT Monitor, which is the national reseller’s ongoing poll of IT decision makers from small and midsize companies, shows some glimpses of improvement for the second half of 2009 (if not outright optimism). Overall, the actual index number is still pretty low at 69, but this was relatively flat compared with previous edition published back in February. Believe me, flat is a good thing right now.

As far as the numbers going, approximately 29 percent of small businesses reported that they would increase their budgets later this year. This was not an overwhelming vote of confidence in the economy, but it WAS up 7 percent from the previous month. CDW’s poll found that 18 percent of midsize-business IT decision maker anticipate increased IT spending over the next six months, up 6 percentage points.

The survey covers at least 1,000 IT decision makers in each round. (This survey happened during the middle of March.) The data is used to create the IT Growth Monitor and the IT Value Monitor, which tracks the positive or negative impact of technology on corporate organizational goals.
