On your mark, get set ... Oracle sales kickoff starts July 6

Turns out Oracle’s annual sales kickoff is on for July 6, not June, as previously reported. (By me. Gulp. Sorry.) This year’s theme: “Power through.”

Sales kickoff is typically a big do, typically in Las Vegas.

Imagine thousands of Oracle sales people and a handful of select partners in Vegas, getting their marching orders and quota. All together. Brings to mind the Lord of the Flies, no? But I digress….This year will be different. Kickoff will be virtual in a nod to the recession.

The usual luminaries will address the masses: Larry Ellison, Charles Phillips, Safra Catz.  Keith Block, Ted Bereswill, and  Judson Althoff on partner stuff. Of course the addresses will come via web conference. No more kibitzing by the pool.

Word is that Oracle’s Q4 and year end numbers won’t be stellar–that the commercial sector sucked wind, while government arena  (no surprise) did just fine.

When media invitations went out for Oracle’s July 1 Fusion Middleware event in Washington D.C., a colleague surmised that the venue choice was made because the federal government may be teh only organization left that can afford Oracle. He kids, he kids. (I think.)
