Microsoft-Citrix V-alliance push piggybacks on VMworld Europe

As we all know, VMworld Europe is all  about Microsoft and Citrix. Or so say Microsoft and Citrix.

Both companies are touting their new desktop virtualization-focused  V-alliance in the belly of the beast (at VMworld Europe in Copenhagen.) The alliance aims to build a single source of information and resources for building what Microsoft, Citrix and Intel are calling The Optimized Desktop.

The short video is full of back-handed compliments about virtualization giant VMware and its VMworld event. The show is lively although there’s “not much new,” chirps Citrix’s Klaus Oestermann.

As for deliverables, the V-alliance Web site includes the usual: videos, white papers, case studies, blah blah blah. The product download option is as yet inoperative so it’s unclear what the software deliverables will be. And, while the video touts V-alliance as partner focused, nearly all the content is aimed at customers.

The program is  already online in Europe , is rolling out in the U.S., and will come to Asia soon, according to Patrick O’Rourke’s blog post.

More to come next month at TechEd Berlin i’m sure.

4 years are a good lifecycle prior to replace servers. This is the point where the cost of maintenance starts to go up.
