CDW reports improving optimism among IT decision makers

Are things looking brighter for your customers? And, in turn, for you? It would seem so, as reported by the latest CDW IT Monitor.

The number of large businesses that expected an improvement in business conditions reached 63 percent in the latest version of the poll, which was conducted in mid-July. This is up 20 percent from February. IT decision makers from midsize and small companies also were more positive. What’s more, the IT Monitor score rose one point to 70. This was the first increase since December 2008.

Now, if we could just convince your customers to pay you on time.

CDW conducts its polls on an ongoing basis, hiring the Richard Day Research company to do so. The respondents come from two national panels of IT decision makers and includes at least 1,000 respondents during each polling period. Here’s the link to where all its data is housed.

In its latest report, CDW also noted some stabilization when it comes to IT hiring plans, as indicated by its ongoing spot polls of IT decision makers.

While this doesn’t automatically translate into great news for the channel at large (I mean, don’t you want them to hire YOU, not on-staff people), all these features do indicate that the technology spending may be headed for a recovery.

Only 10 percent of the large businesses replying to the August CDW IT Monitor reported that they planned to reduce IT staff in the subsequent six months, which was down from 17 percent in the February poll period. The number of midsize companies expecting to cut staff was 7 percent, down from 9 percent in April.
