Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference 2016 ended its four-day run July 14 in Toronto. The annual event drew an international crowd that filled the Air Canada Centre -- and a number of hotels in the vicinity. And while the event lacked any blockbuster revelations, there was plenty to ponder, from augmented reality to what one Microsoft exec called the "new normal" of cloud adoption across a range of businesses.

Cloud computing: It's big, getting bigger. Accordingly, Microsoft is putting considerable resources behind its stake in the cloud. Azure is maturing as a platform, according to channel partners that are working with Microsoft's cloud and keeping an eye on developments such as Azure Stack. And the company's Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program appears to be gaining momentum among the partner base.
