IT services providers: Quiz yourself on tech and channel trends

This month's channel news quiz runs the gamut from mergers and acquisitions to managed security services. Take the test to catch up on current events.

Mergers and acquisitions have been grabbing the IT news headlines lately, with Microsoft's pending $26.3 billion LinkedIn purchase capping a spate of activity. And there are plenty of developments of interest to IT services providers in such fields as cloud computing, software defined networking (SDN) and analytics.

Looking for a refresher on current events? Here's an overview of what we are covering in this installment of the channel news quiz:

Merger mania: Microsoft-LinkedIn is a big part of the M&A story, but other transactions in the mix include ServiceNow's soon-to-close purchase of BrightPoint Security and Salesforce's pending buyout of Demandware. Channel partners are reading the tea leaves to see what these unfolding events portend.

Technology developments: Sometimes, it's two steps forward and one step back with emerging technologies. SDN, for instance, appears set for growth, but a shortage of SDN-savvy IT personnel could hinder adoption. Cloud computing is gaining new adherents as security concerns decline, but the lack of cloud governance complicates matters.

Building a better data center: Vendors continue to roll out new tools to boost data center operations, including a new analytics tool from a nontraditional data center player.

Moves, adds and changes: A cloud consulting company recently discussed the decision to relocate its headquarters and a backup vendor has added a new cloud pricing policy for its managed services provider (MSP) customers. Partner program changes at Dell, meanwhile, have helped boost new customer revenue.

Channel partnering: New-look distributors are offering more cloud services and gaining new IT vendor partners.

IT security: Demand for managed security services continues to grow as organizations look to add data protection capabilities without adding headcount. But while IT services providers and their customers deploy the latest in on-premises and cloud-based technologies, they can't afford to overlook old fashioned human error.

Scoring:

7-9 correct answers: Channel maven

0-6 correct answers: Learning channel
