Storage virtualization solutions continue to creep rather than march into data centers. Thirty-four percent of survey respondents said that they have virtualized at least some of their storage, but that number has not changed much in the past few years' storage Purchasing Intentions surveys. Among those who have virtualized at least some of their storage, a full two-thirds have implemented some block virtualization. Less than 20% have virtualized all of their block storage -- no change since the fall 2009 survey. Among the same group of respondents (those who have virtualized at least some of their storage), two-thirds have virtualized some of their file storage, and more than 20% have virtualized all of their file storage. The file virtualization numbers for both "some" and "all" respondents represent significant increases since the fall 2009 survey. Given the fact that much of the data growth in the data center is in file storage, those increases make sense.
