ISVs: VMware doesn't play nice
VMware is expanding beyond its core server virtualization business, and that expansion is causing contention with VMware and its ISV partners, according to SearchServerVirtualization.com.
Several ISVs at VMworld 2009 this week said their dealings with the vendor have been strained of late and there have been some public spats, most notably last June when VMware Inc. told Veeam Software to pull support for the free ESXi hypervisor from its backup product. Some ISVs said the tension is driving them to work with VMware rivals Microsoft and Citrix.
Red Hat sketches in RHEL 5.4 plan
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4, now available, offers the option of Xen or KVM hypervisors as part of its install process. At the Red Hat Summit in Chicago this week, Red Hat Inc. said it also added new application programming interfaces for advanced virtualization management services like dynamic provisioning and live migration to the mix. They are in beta and will be available later this year.
Informatica buys Agent Logic
Data integration power Informatica bought Agent Logic, a company that specializes in complex event processing (CEP), this week. CEP technology detects and analyzes event-based data in real time to enable quick action.
Terms were not disclosed. Informatica Corp. is likely to use its own real-time data integration to feed into CEP software, according to SearchDataManagement.com.
