Microsoft Azure services expected to undercut Amazon Web Services

Microsoft is expected to cost out its Azure web services 10% less in aggregate than comparable -- and already available -- Amazon Web Services (AWS), according to SearchCloudComputing.com.

For months, Microsoft has touted its planned hosted database, synchronization, compute and storage services but has left pricing up to the imagination. Unlike Amazon, Microsoft has thousands of developer and VAR partners that it's trying to bring along so it must leave some room in the model for them to mark up their work atop Azure.

Microsoft enters the cloud computing fray late; AWS can already claim major e-commerce customers that run their transactions and store data on its infrastructure.

Senior vice president Bob Muglia is expected to outline the Azure sales model next week at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference.
