Microsoft promotes Sinofsky
Steven Sinofsky, the Microsoft veteran credited with leading the Office charge and then pushing Windows 7 to fruition, is now president of the Windows Division. Windows 7, the successor to Vista, is promised for general release October 22.
Tami Reller, chief financial officer for the division, will take over Windows marketing from senior vice president Bill Veghte. Veghte, who also headed up Windows business strategy and sales, is moving to a new, as yet undisclosed role, Microsoft said in a statement late Wednesday.
Senior Vice President Jon DeVaan will continue to manage the development of core components for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2007 R2 and report to Sinofsky. More on the personnel moves in TechFlash.
Autodesk adds more plant solutions VARs
Autodesk now claims more than 50 worldwide partners in its Autodesk Plant Solutions group.
The group has signed agreements with partners in Africa, America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East, and these partners have met criteria for being experts in Autodesk's plan design and engineering products and services.
New plant solutions partners include Hagerman and Company Inc., in the U.S.; CADTEAM, a dedicated Autodesk Plant Solutions VAR in Northern Europe; and Aceri Distribution Ltd.
U.S., South Korean government websites expose security flaws
A series of distributed denial-of service (DDoS) attacks against U.S. and South Korean government websites has prompted investigations by security researchers and government IT personnel.
The attacks commenced during the Fourth of July holiday weekend, and the targets included hosting websites for the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Transportation, according to SearchSecurity.com.
The attacks appear to have originated from South Korean computers and have affected other government websites and financial firms.
