Tech Data signs Force10 Networks

Tech Data Corp. will now offer Force10 Networks' products to its affiliated VARs. Force10 products include the S-Series 1 GB and 10 GB Ethernet switches for small and medium-sized businesses and larger companies, as well as high-end data center switches and routers. Force10 claims to have big customers, including eHarmony, Cox Communications and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Citrix unleashes XenServer 5.5

Citrix Systems Inc.'s free, but feature-rich, XenServer 5.5 server virtualization software launched Tuesday.

In February, Citrix caused a stir when it said it would give away XenServer. The new version features Active Directory integration, which will help IT managers implement role-based access controls, according to SearchServerVirtualization.com.

IBM CloudBurst aims at enterprises

IBM's new "cloud in a box" appliance comprises a preconfigured BladeCenter running Tivoli management software and VMware's ESXi 3.5 embedded hypervisor on each blade in a 42-U rack. Users can roll the CloudBurst appliance and associated services into their own data centers starting this week, according to SearchCloudComputing.com. CloudBurst starts at a cool $200,000.
