IT channel news in brief for June 9, 2009

SonicWALL launches MSP training

SonicWALL launched another phase of its program that helps partners build managed services practices around its secure networking infrastructure. It now offers webinars, white papers and other training to help partners become managed service providers (MSPs).

The Next Generation MSP initiative claims to offer partners a way to get a piece of the predictable revenue flow that managed services provide.

Former SEC chief disses SOX

Harvey Pitt, the former Securities and Exchange Commission chairman, once spearheaded the implementation of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX). But now he doesn't have much good to say about it. Speaking last week in Washington, D.C., Pitt said such laws address the last corporate crisis and ignore newer failures that -- "like bugs that adapt to DDT" -- keep evolving. Pitt spoke at the Compliance Week 2009 conference in Washington, noting that a decade has passed since Enron and WorldCom spurred the creation of SOX.

According to SearchCompliance.com, Pitt said, "SOX was hastily and badly drafted." "[What it described] was all already illegal … but it was important in showing the country wouldn't stand for this kind of behavior. If SOX was really effective, would we have seen the subprime crisis in corporate America?"
