Tech Data catches Apple fever, spruces up digital signage practice

At its TechSelect Conference this week, Tech Data Corp. said it added an Apple Lab to its 6,000-square-foot technology solutions center. Now, Apple resellers can show customers how Apple-based solutions can be deployed in small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and larger companies. The addition of this lab shows how Apple's consumer-oriented iPhones, iPods and Macs are making inroads into corporate IT environments, according to Brian Davis, vice president of client systems product marketing for Tech Data.

The lab will run a full complement of Apple products, including the aforementioned iPods, iPhones and iMacs as well as the Mac Mini, Mac Pro, Xserve and Apple TV.

Tech Data also launched a business unit dedicated to digital signage and projectors, and said it has inked distribution pacts with HANNspree North America Inc., Hitachi Home Electronics Inc. and Vivitek Corp.

Ingram Micro launches new tools

At the Ingram Micro 2009 Seismic Partner Conference earlier this month, the company highlighted four new business tools that are aimed at helping its partners to improve their service offerings.

The new offerings include Seismic Epicenter, Seismic Business Intelligence Dashboard, Seismic Global Network Operations Center and Seismic Instant Recovery On Demand by CA.

"Seismic makes it easier for us to build up our value-add, increase overall profitability and establish a stronger go-to-market strategy that keeps us ahead of our competitors and top of mind with our customers," said Seismic partner and MSP Patrick Ciccarelli, CEO of Varsity Technologies.

The company's biannual 2009 Partner Connections Summit drew some 220 channel partners and featured sessions on new emerging technologies in desktop and server virtualization, content management, disaster recovery, peripherals and security.

The next summit will take place in Denver from Sept. 22 through Sept. 24.

Bell Micro adds more Teneros services

Bell Micro this week added Teneros' new high-availability and disaster recovery SaaS offering to its portfolio. Bell Microproducts Inc. has already distributed Teneros' email continuity solution for Microsoft Exchange.

Teneros supplies an on-premises SaaS appliance to the customer site. It then manages the SaaS appliances from the Teneros Network Operations Center.

Avnet dives into storage optimization

This month, Avnet Technology Solutions added an IT storage optimization practice to its portfolio of VAR services. StoragePath is supposed to help Avnet's North American solution providers deliver hardware, software and services. It should also help customers comply with regulations and make better use of their storage resources at less cost.

The market for storage products hit $75 billion last year and has an expected four-year compound annual growth rate of 3.2% for hardware, software and services.

Compliance and digital content growth continue to fuel the demand for storage solutions. In response to increasingly stringent federal guidelines and regulations regarding data retention, companies have developed compliance strategies to properly save and retrieve documents, files and correspondence. At the same time, the volume of digital content has grown, prompting a drive toward handling this data differently by considering its use, production, access and delivery.
