Windows Storage Server goes to OEMs

Windows Storage Server 2008 and the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.2 are now available to OEM partners, according to Microsoft's storage team blog.

The product tandem succeeds Windows Storage Server 2003 and Windows Unified Data Storage Server 2003. Microsoft cited an improved TCP/IP stack, failover clustering and support for IPv6, updated VSS/VDS providers and improved failover cluster support as the key benefits for this release.

BakBone acquires Asempra

BacBone Software Inc. has acquired Asempra Technologies Inc. for just under $2 million, according to SearchDataBackup.com. Asempra was BakBone's Windows data backup and continuous data protection partner.

BakBone said on Monday that it will issue 3.8 million shares of its common stock to Asempra's stakeholders and investors. Asempra's former customers can now get support through BakBone, which will use Asempra technology and its sales and development personnel to broaden its presence in the Windows market.
