Windows 7 beta changes on deck; the best storage products of the year

Microsoft outlines changes to Win 7 beta

The Windows 7 engineering group took to its team blog to explain visible changes Microsoft will be making in its Win 7 Release Candidate beta. Among them is a more noticeable flash and color scheme to show "needy windows" -- windows that have frozen or are otherwise in trouble. Also new is a keyboard shortcut to the taskbar that "may alienate mice everywhere," according to blogger Chaitanya Sareen. Meanwhile, the guessing game as to when Win 7 will ship continues.

The best of the best in storage products

Acronis, Asigra and BakBone Software fielded some of the best backup and disaster recovery products in 2008, according to SearchStorage.com and Storage Magazine. The publications weighed disks and disk subsystems, storage management software and other storage categories and came up with the best product in each.

Red Hat steps up in virtualization efforts

Counterprogramming for VMworld Europe, Red Hat this week outlined its virtualization strategy for 2009. Over the next three to 18 months, the company said it will ship a range of Red Hat-labeled products, including enterprise virtualization managers for servers and desktops and an enterprise hypervisor, according to the Enterprise Linux blog. Also promised for that timeframe are Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.4 and the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Platform.

HP ProCurve channel chief on partner issues

Kevin Kabat, who runs channels for HP ProCurve, talks to SearchNetworkingChannel.com about the company's big data center play for partners and other hot-button issues.

Juniper adds Ethernet data center switch

Juniper Networks this week added the EX 2500 top-of-rack data center switch to its Ethernet lineup this week. The switch sports 24 ports of 10 Gigabit Ethernet, according to SeachNetworking.com.
