Microsoft's Ballmer announces Windows 7 beta, Windows Live services

As expected, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer used his Consumer Electronics Show pulpit to beat the drum for Windows 7, the successor to the Windows Vista client operating system.

The beta is downloadable now for MSDN, TechBeta and TechNet customers. A broad Windows 7 beta will be available Jan. 9. Ballmer also announced the next edition of Windows Live communications and sharing services, hosted by Microsoft. Barron's Blog ran a running commentary of Wednesday night's CES confab.

Microsoft prolongs Antigen life support

Microsoft extended the end-of-life for Sybari Antigen for Exchange 8.0 and Sybari Antigen for SMTP Gateways 8.0 from Dec. 31, 2008 to Dec. 31, 2009. The company said the decision was made to accommodate the antivirus needs of customers that are still running versions of Exchange prior to Exchange 2000 and that have requested additional time to upgrade in 2009.

T-mobile announces flock of new phones

T-Mobile has expanded its mobile phone portfolio with T-Mobile Shadow, BlackBerry Curve 8900, MOTO w233 Renew, and Nokia 7510 and Samsung t119 .
