SAP users gripe about fee increases
A group of SAP users will take their complaints about increased SAP maintenance fees straight to the top. A user group task force will meet with SAP co-CEOs Henning Kagermann and Leo Apotheker in a few weeks, according to Americas SAP Users Group (ASUG) president Steve Strout. In July, SAP said it was increasing maintenance fees on its lower-cost support option, from 17% of net license cost to 22%, according to SearchSAP.com.
Cisco releases security patches
Cisco Systems released a bundle of software updates that address flaws in its uBR10012 router series, SearchSecurity.com reported yesterday. The release of the uBR10012 security patch prompted Symantec to elevate its global threat level to Level 2. Symantec's threat levels range from one to four, with four being the most extreme. Cisco's advisory warned that the uBR10012 devices enable Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) read/write access if a device is configured for line card redundancy. An attacker who exploits the vulnerability can gain complete control of the router. Other security updates released Wednesday address flaws in Cisco's IOS software and Unified Communications manager.
(ISC)2 reaches out past developers
Security council (ISC)2 announced a new software security certification that targets project managers, IT analysts and engineers involved in the software development lifecycle, SearchSecurity.com reported yesterday. The intent is to train everyone involved in software development to bake security into projects from the jump. The curriculum will focus on vulnerabilities, risk and compliance issues. The first exam will be administered in June, and candidates can apply from now through March 31 to take part in an assessment and to help develop exams and the overall program. Certification seekers do not need a CISSP.
IBM builds out its cloud
IBM has opened four new cloud computing centers in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Bangalore, India; Seoul, Korea; and Hanoi, Vietnam; where there is increasing demand for Internet-based computing models, according to SearchDataCenter.com. IBM now has 13 such centers and has dedicated more than 200 full-time researchers and $100 million to cloud computing ventures.
