NEC, king of the Japanese server market, is making a push to become more visible in North America. A big part of that push is NEC's attendance this week at VMworld 2008, where the company announced its Express5800 server designed specifically for virtualization.
NEC resellers and distributors will also play a major role in the effort. There are about 60 NEC resellers in North America, accounting for 90% of the vendor's revenue in the market -- and an even higher percentage of its sales -- according to Steve DeBonis, channel director for NEC's IT platform group.
In this podcast, recorded at VMworld 2008, DeBonis and Ken Hertzler, server products director for NEC's IT platform group, discuss the company's growth in North America and the reseller opportunity in selling NEC together with VMware.
