Symantec next week will announce Symantec Endpoint Management Suite 1.0, a new software offering that will provide IT asset management, endpoint security and disaster recovery capabilities.

Endpoint Management Suite combines three existing Symantec products -- Symantec Endpoint Protection, BackupExec System Recovery and the Altiris Client Management Suite -- and a configuration management database. Symantec executives said they will not talk about the new offering until June 23, but Endpoint Management Suite details were available on Symantec's website this afternoon.

"The more technologies you're using to protect your infrastructure, to back it up, to manage patches and the deployment of updates, if it's all integrated, it's going to make it a lot easier for the customer," said Gary Cannon, president of Advanced Internet Security, a Symantec partner in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The suite will allow for more automated IT asset management, better system interoperability and more control over Windows environments, according to the Symantec website.

The Altiris Client Management Suite provides IT asset management, including patching and software deployment, to desktops, laptops and mobile devices. BackupExec System Recovery can recover desktops and laptops and restore them to any hardware or even virtual environments. And Symantec Endpoint Protection, released last year, features firewall, antivirus, antispyware, network intrusion prevention and other security technologies.

The different technologies in the suite will attract different customer bases, said Adam Gray, chief technology officer for Novacoast, a Symantec partner in Santa Barbara, Calif. Symantec Endpoint Protection will draw larger enterprises who care most about protecting their data, while smaller businesses will be most interested in BackupExec System Recovery, he said.

Pricing for Endpoint Management Suite was not available, but customers must buy one perpetual license for every endpoint they wish to manage.
