Value-added distributor Westcon Group Inc. has acquired the assets of Verecloud Inc., the makers of a distribution platform for cloud and services solutions. Westcon Group will incorporate Verecloud into its cloud solutions practice, which will be led by former Verecloud CEO John McCawley.

Verecloud's cloud services aggregation and brokerage platform will serve as the foundation of Westcon Group's cloud digital distribution solution, which is designed to assist value-added resellers (VARs) generate revenue from cloud-enabled services, the distributor said. For resellers building a cloud practice, Westcon Group said its cloud distribution solution facilitates the practical challenges, such as micro-transaction billing, service-level monitoring, and up- and cross-selling.
According to Westcon Group, the acquired platform delivers a cloud/service offer catalog that features bundled and individual offers, solution bundling that provides consolidated purchasing and billing data, multi-tier cloud syndication, and white-label/reseller-branded Web stores.
The cloud distribution platform also offers an automated services delivery lifecycle, which includes inventory discovery and service fulfillment; visibility into services purchases, used and modified; real-time service rating and billing; identity management and account synchronization; and end user change management.
Additionally, Westcon Group said it offers channel enablement services for assisting resellers manage their business transformation into cloud partners. The distributor is developing a set of Operation Support Services and Business Support Services to do so.
In the coming year, Westcon Group will expand its white-labeled/reseller-branded offerings by adding Billing as a Service; up- and cross-selling; marketing and campaign management; legal contract creating services; contract renewal or subscription management; reseller sales enablement and training; ROI analysis; and technical support for cloud services, migration, implementation and service-level agreement management.
Zetta.net integrates ConnectWise platform
Zetta.net has completed integration of its enterprise-grade cloud backup and disaster recovery (BDR) product with ConnectWise, a business management platform for service providers, VARs, independent software vendors, and managed service providers (MSPs).
According to Zetta.net, the ConnectWise integration further simplifies backup administrative processes by delivering a unified backup management and automated billing platform for MSPs. The ConnectWise platform gives service providers a complete view of their Zetta.net customers' data usage, alerts, billing and more. Using the platform, partners can proactively manage backup and restore the status of their clients' backup environments, extract alerts and automatically open a service ticket. They can also link to customer account usage and create automated billing.
Avnet Technology Solution's global president steps down
On Tuesday, value-added distributor Avnet Inc. announced that Global President Phil Gallagher of Avnet Technology Solutions will resign. Gallagher will remain in his position until a successor takes his place and will assist in the transition, Avnet said. The company expects to have a new global president in place by 2015.
