Solutions (AGS) LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary, with a sole focus on the U.S. public sector: federal and state, local and education (SLED) markets.
The moves takes Avnet GovPath, an Avnet SolutionPath vertical created in 2008, to the next level, according to Gavin Miller, vice president and general manager for sales and marketing solutions.
"Avnet Government Solutions will help partners solve business problems specific to the public sector space. With the addition of subject matter experts who are industry veterans, in particular, this move takes GovPath to the next level," he said. Avnet GovPath provided partner enablement and will be a small piece of AGS going forward, Miller added.
Creating a separate business entity was driven by the economy of scale of the U.S. government IT market, which is an economy unto itself and the world's most lucrative IT market, said Ray Ramey, newly appointed as vice president and general manager of AGS. The new business will focus on all areas of government IT spending including the intelligence community, Department of Defense (DoD) and civilian.
To help partners capture the more than $148 billion that Avnet said is expected to be spent on IT-related purchases in the federal and SLED markets in 2014, AGS will have a solution management organization to align government IT spending strategy with that of Avnet suppliers and partners; a government services organization to handle distribution, configuration, quote and order processes; a services entity to complement a partners capability; and a strategy and compliance organization.
AGS will offer the following services to partners:
- Capture assistance. AGS will leverage its relationships with public sector technology suppliers to help partners develop and execute plans and initiatives with public sector customers. The company will work with partners to identify opportunities, develop customer strategies, build teams and match expertise to contract requirements, supplement technical writing needs, help scope and estimate projects, and help partners engage government customers via targeted business development activities. AGS holds a U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Schedule from which partners can resell, according to the company.
- Compliance. AGS will provide guidance for partners toward certifications that are required to pursue and capture government contracts. AGS will also work with partners throughout the bidding and procurement process to avoid risk and improve chances for success.
- Process management. AGS will provide IT distribution services related to logistics, finance, the supply chain and technical capabilities.
In addition, Avnet Services specialists will be available to help partners around business solutions, IT solutions, life cycle solutions and technical education solutions.
Hitachi Data Systems Federal Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi Data Systems Corp., announced today a single distribution partnership with AGS. This means that AGS will offer HDS Federal's partners services and technology.
