MSPAlliance appoints president of Locknet to advisory board

The MSPAlliance last week appointed Peter Kujawa, president and chief operating officer of LaCrosse, Wis.-based Locknet, to its six-member Managed Services Advisory Board. The board has the mandate of maintaining the standards and certification guidelines of the MSPAlliance, including its year-old Unified Certification Standard (UCS) for the cloud and the managed services industry.

The MSPAlliance advisory board works to promote the UCS to the IT channel and to IT organizations, and it meets on a regular basis to review the UCS. The UCS provides two levels of certifications for cloud and managed services: One level has a fixed certification date; the other is forward-looking. Companies that are certified under the UCS receive a public-facing report that can be shared with customers.

NexGen announces 35-city educational event tour

Solid-state drive (SSD) vendor NexGen Storage last week announced the beginning of a 35-city customer educational tour it's calling Storage Election 2012. The first event is Aug. 1 in San Jose, Calif. The company is choosing one VAR in each city to host the event.

Each event will feature three "candidates," each representing a different approach for using solid-state in a shared storage system. According to NexGen, "Rusty Spindles III" will represent conventional hybrid systems; "Flash Made-Off" will represent all-SSD arrays; and "Fusion Powers" will represent shared PCIe-based solid-state storage. Attendees will listen to each position, weigh the pros and cons, and then vote for the best approach.

Sanbolic recently announced Intel has included its Melio software in a new Enabled Solution Acceleration Alliance (ESAA) pre-validated configuration guide, or "recipe." The Sanbolic Melio and Microsoft SQL 2008R2 Guide describes how to best handle clustering of SQL Server on Intel platforms.

ESAA recipes, which are jointly developed by Intel and hardware and software vendors, are intended for use by resellers, OEMs and end users.

In addition to the Sanbolic/SQL Server guide, Sanbolic and Intel have guides addressing Microsoft Hyper-V R2, Citrix XenDesktop 5.0 and file server clustering with Microsoft Server 2008 R2.
