Windows service pack releases for VARs to follow
Solution providers should expect different types of changes to Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7, but similar migration questions from customers, when their service packs come out soon.
Windows 7 SP1 will be a single download instead of individual patches, but experts consider this a positive aspect of the releases because of the positive reviews for Windows 7, according to SearchWindowsServer.com. Windows Server 2008 R2 will, however, will contain significant new features such as Dynamic Memory and RemoteFX.
F5 makes partner training program adjustments
F5 Networks made a few modifications to its channel partner training program for VAR certification, which will be broken up into Web-based sales and technical training.
Solution providers can access the training modules at no cost via F5's channel partner portal, according to SearchSecurityChannel.com. There are also accreditation changes for solution providers to take note of. Now a provider must pass tests based on real-world scenarios at the end of each module to get the F5 accreditation brand.
HP-3Com VARs unsure of VCX future
HP is putting its VCX IP voice and telephony product line on ice.
HP VCX was acquired with HP's 3Com megadeal but the company no longer thinks the VCX system will bring in new customers and said that it's going into "maintenance mode". Key issues for solution providers are VCX customers asking for refunds and the general confusion surrounding the line.
Despite HP's claims that the future of VCX will be based on sales volume, HP-3Com customers have been wondering for a while if this is the beginning of the end for the product line.
