Hyperformix produces automated capacity management products for customers with physical, virtual and public cloud environments, according to SearchServerVirtualization.com. The Hyperformix Capacity Manager, Hyperformix Data Manager and Hyperformix Performance Optimizer are just a few tools that solution providers can use to help customers with workload management and performance optimization.
Some analysts see the deal as a response to VMware's recent Integrien acquisition and a push toward the private cloud. CA purchased cloud computing vendor 3Tera in February and Cassatt and its data center automation technology last year to boost its private cloud technology.
Gartner warns companies to prep properly for virtualization
The biggest issue challenging infrastructure and operations through 2015 is virtualization, according to Gartner Inc. analysts. Many IT managers think they have virtualized their x86 servers, but Gartner research shows that they need to "plan for two to three times the growth of virtualization in the portfolio."
More than 80% of enterprises currently have a virtualization program or project in place, but only 25% of servers will use virtual machines by the end of 2010, according to the company. Gartner also reported that x86 architecture servers represent 90% of the server market and that 80% to 90% of the x86 computing capacity remains unused.
For solution providers, these findings suggest that they should have a solid understanding of how virtualization can strain an infrastructure that isn't properly prepared for implementation. Providers should also start paying greater attention to new contracts and procedures as software pricing and licensing change to accommodate virtualization.
The server virtualization market and key virtualization issues will be discussed by analysts at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo on Oct. 17-21 in Orlando, Fla.
