release features strong integration with VMware vCenter Server, but its real value to solutions providers may lie in its cloud computing capabilities.

Hyperic can now monitor cloud-hosted applications that run on SpringSource's Java-based platform, according to SearchServerVirtualization.com. A year ago, VMware acquired SpringSource as well as Hyperic.

The connection between Hyperic 4.4 and vCenter is important to customers because it provides a clear view of a virtual environment without having Hyperic and vCenter open simultaneously. New Hyperic features include consistent monitoring of VMware vSphere ESX and ESXi hosts and virtualization-aware alerting.

Dell x86 servers draw interest from data center pros

Dell felt the effects of a tough economy as much as any vendor, but the company has made a push to get back into the data center market, and its x86 servers have drawn strong customer interest.

Results of Data Center Decisions survey showed a hike in market share for Dell. In 2009, the company had 29.9% of the server market, which was second behind Hewlett-Packard Co.'s 38%. In 2010, Dell (35.1%) has had the upper hand over HP (34.1%).
