VMware Workstation 7.1 also has memory management and encryption enhancements that should simplify virtual memory and virtual machine management for solutions providers. Other features such as Direct Launch will make moving applications to the host desktop a more efficient process.
Workstation 7.1 will support guests and hosts for 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5 and OpenSUSE 11.2.
IBM strengthens cloud portfolio with Sterling Commerce deal
IBM said its acquisition of Sterling Commerce from AT&T for $1.4 billion this week will simplify and automate business transactions across both on-premise and cloud computing applications.
Thanks to the acquisition, IBM said its solutions providers' customers will be able to manage their networks through public and private clouds, depending on their needs. IBM also said this deal will use Sterling's resources to make the transfer of data across different networks easier for customers.
