The preview incorporates technology from DATAllegro to enable VARs to construct bigger data warehouses and scale them over multiple SQL Server machines.
No release date on the final product was given. Solution providers can test out the new database via Microsoft's Technology Adoption Program.
Amazon opens up about cloud outages
IT users applaud a new-found openness on the part of Amazon Web Services when it comes to service issues. AWS suffered a three-hour partial outage at its North Virginia data center on April 1 and posted an explanation on its AWS status monitoring page. A software upgrade to the control layer of Amazon's EC2 service was not properly tested before going into production, according to SearchCloudComputing.com. In the past, AWS was not as forthcoming about problems and IT users applauded this change.
