Channel Marker blog posts on Cisco's UCS, open-source fan favorite Canonical and Lotus Notes topped the hot list of topics for the last month of 2009. Here are the five most-read items for December.

1. Surprise! Cisco UCS doing well in midmarket!

-- combining servers, storage, and networking -- definitely targeted big-boy companies. So it was truly surprising how much traction UCS actually got in midmarket companies even early on.

2. Canonical's Shuttleworth taking some time

What was a reporter to think when Canonical convened a conference call on short notice with its CEO and Founder Mark Shuttleworth and COO Jane Silber? Our conjecture was that Shuttleworth was taking time off. Very close. It turns out Shuttleworth was stepping down from his top-dog role, with Silber stepping in as CEO.

3. Happy Birthday Notes!

Lotus Notes, the groupware pioneer, turned 20 on Dec. 7, aka Pearl Harbor day, depending on how you count.

4. Hot channel trends to watch in 2010

It sure looked like 2010 would turn into the year of desktop virtualization. Cloud computing and new client hardware were also hot IT channel topics to watch in the upcoming year, according to the SearchITChannel.com channel advisory board.
