Windows 7 will be broadly available in stores and on PCs October 22, Microsoft said. Windows Server 2008 will be out some time before that date. Microsoft also released its standalone Hyper-V hypervisor to manufacturing. Hyper-V is also bundled with Windows Server 2008.

Volume Licensing customers, Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) subscribers and TechNet subscribers should have access to the code within weeks.

Tech Data signs up for more SunGard services

Tech Data can now offer SunGard Availability Services to its affiliated VARs.

That means the VARs can add SunGard's managed backup and disaster recovery services to their own offerings. Tech Data already distributes SunGard's Living Disaster Recovery Planning System (LDRPS) and Virtual Server Replication (VSR). LDRPS is a Software-as-a-Service offering that helps users to develop a continuity program in the event of a hardware failure or natural disaster. VSR is geared toward small and medium-sized businesses and helps companies to recover by using a secondary data center.
