SearchCIO.com asks whether the devil you know (fat clients) is better than the one you don't (virtual desktops). Fat clients bring a familiar operating system, real-time access to multimedia and device portability. They also bring fix-it-yourself PC problems and add programs that may cause the device -- or even the network -- to go haywire. Desktop virtualization minimizes security risks since data resides in the data center. Updates and patches are also easier. So which is the better of the two?
