Adobe fixes security vulnerabilities in .pdf viewers

Flaws would have allowed attackers to run JavaScript without the user's consent.

Adobe Systems Inc. has released patches that fix security problems in its .pdf viewer.

The patches fix cross-site scripting (XSS) flaws in Adobe Reader and Acrobat versions 7.0.8 and earlier; they would allow attackers to run their own Java Scripts in a victim's browser session.

The Danish security clearinghouse Secunia said the problem exists whenever the viewer processes .pdf files.
