Cisco expands voice-over-IP products, integration

Cisco has added greater flexibility in its VoIP offerings, including better systems management, access to secure VoIP from outside the office, a more expansive VoIP phone and better teleconferencing.

Cisco Systems Inc. is again increasing its effort to expand in the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) market.

The latest product set includes a new IP phone, desktop integration software and greater back-end scalability for messaging, call-processing and rich-media conferencing.

The phone includes 24 lighted key lines and access to centralized global directories, and is aimed at commercial environments.

The desktop integration offering is the Cisco Unified Operations Manager 2.0 and Unified Service Monitor 2.0. The two add more granular tools to simplify management of VoIP systems.

Cisco has also added more effective voice-enablement and voice mailbox capacity on its Cisco Unified MeetingPlace teleconferencing application.

In addition, Cisco's Unified PhoneProxy gives telecommuters and workers who are out of the office access to secure IP phones without the need for a virtual private network.
