The range of CPU platforms and [operating system] combinations is going to make a difference to what you can virtualize and what you can't. There may be a benefit in virtualizing your x86 Windows and Linux servers and taking that SQL database off an Itanium and onto a virtual x86 application. However, this might not give you the best performance and might not be the most efficient way of virtualizing the infrastructure.
