Avaya executive-go-round

Avaya appointed former Motorola channel executive Jeremy Butt to be its worldwide channel chief today. The appointment is the latest in a series of executive changes at the company in recent months.

Butt most recently served as vice president of worldwide channels for Motorola’s enterprise mobility business, and he is credited with greatly expanding the division’s channel reach globally.

At Avaya, Butt will lead more than 3,400 partners. “As Avaya brings tighter focus to its core businesses of unified communications and contact center, it will be critical for us to scale our global channel programs to meet our growth objectives. Jeremy is a world class channel leader with the global expertise to execute our channel centric go-to-market,” said Avaya senior vice president of global sales Todd Abbott in a statement.

Last week, Avaya CEO Lou D’Ambrosio stepped down for medical reasons. Charles Giancarlo will assume the CEO position while a search is being conducted. Giancarlo had been at Cisco for more than 20 years and was considered a likely candidate to ultimately replace CEO John Chambers. But Giancarlo left Cisco and joined Silver Lake, a technology investment firm that partnered with another company to acquire Avaya. Many in the industry speculate that Giancarlo will remain in the Avaya CEO position in the end.

The week before D’Ambrosio’s resignation, Avaya appointed Christopher Formant president of the global services organization. In January, vice president of North American sales Ken Archer left the company with little explanation. He was replaced by Avaya sales exec Donny Ward.
